Maria suggests that the group go to visit Mikado Sanzenin, Nagi's grandfather and only remaining blood relative, in light of the new year. Aboard the Sanzenin chinook, Hayate wonders what sort of person Mikado is, to which Nagi says he is "the Zoma of Dragon Quest" and "the Danshi of Rakugo". As Hayate ponders aloud whether he will be alright meeting him, Sakuya states that Mikado can crush Hayate if he loses his temper or even do so just because he has a perplexing smell. Upon arrival at Mikado's castle, Hayate is blown away by the sheer scale of his wealth and asks what line of business he is in, Nagi tells him he is the "King of Oil" to which Maria says is not considered an occupation. After being greeted by an army of maids and manservants, Hayate realizes that Nagi is not the daughter of a rich family, but an incredibly rich family. The manservants promptly tie Hayate up thinking he is an intruder because of how he looks poor, but release him after being told he is the new butler. When Hayate goes to take a walk outside, he thinks aloud to himself that a vase he saw could be worth enough to completely repay his hundred and fifty million yen debt. An old man appears, saying that it is worth only fifty million and will not cover the debt. Hayate then unintentionally insults him when he thinks he is a gardener, which infuriates the old man as he realizes Hayate has no faith in his insight. To "show" Hayate how great his insight is, the old man brings Hayate to peep on Nagi while she changes clothes. Upon his asking, Hayate explains his story to the old man, and says they should not invade Nagi's privacy out of his gratefulness to her. Suddenly, the old man says that Hayate's life is beyond any means, insignificant, and more meaningless than Hayate's own parents. At this point, the old man then reveals himself as Mikado Sanzenin, guarenteeing that his words are true.
